OUR STAFF
DIRECTOR OF INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

Cory C. W. Peters
Cory C. W. Peters is the fourth director of the Vista Del Lago High School Band and Color Guard Program. He was born and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, California, where he attended Los Osos High School under the direction of Dr. Samuel Andress. There, he developed his skill as a musician and first realized his desire to teach music. He attended the California State University of San Bernardino, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Minor in Jazz Studies, was elected President of the Coyote Music Society from 2013-2014, and performed with the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Concert and Chamber Choirs, as well as the CSUSB Pep Band: "The Wild Bunch." During this time spent in these ensembles, he was able to perform with renowned artists including Lukas Nelson & The Promise of the Real, B.B. King, Manhattan Transfer, and Poncho Sanchez, in addition to playing with artists such as Peter Erskine, Jeff Clayton, Bobby Rodriguez, and Oscar Hernandez. Shortly after completing his degree, Mr. Peters took a teaching position at San Bernardino High School. While he only taught there for one year, he was able to turn a struggling program with only one band class into a program with band, orchestra, mariachi, and choir classes. He left that position to complete his coursework to obtain his Teaching Credential at the University of Redlands, where he also earned his Master's Degree in Learning and Teaching. He returned to Los Osos High School to complete his student teaching under the supervision of Dr. Andress, and honed his teaching and conducting skills. For the past year, he has worked as a clinician and guest conductor, conducting at the 2nd Annual UCR Wind Band Festival, and directing clinics with Rim of the World High School, Vineyard Jr. High School, and Los Osos High School.
Currently, Mr. Peters is a member of the Moreno Valley Wind Symphony. His professional affiliations include the California Band Directors Association, the International Trumpet Guild, the National Association for Music Education and the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association. He is the trumpet player and founder of the horn section for "The Short Necked Giraffes," a Southern California Ska band that regularly plays throughout the Inland Empire and the Greater Los Angeles area. Ensembles under his leadership are consistently recognized for their musicality, discipline and attention to detail.
